On any date of your choosing (please let me know so I can put it in the actual quest board!), Zee will contact the party members.
In the words of the great Daft Punk: buy it, use it, break it, fix it. You'll be starting at the Farmer's Market. See you there.
Once the group agrees (which we can handwave coordinating with Zee), they will arrive at the Farmer's Market in Viea Village but Zee won't be anywhere in sight. Instead, they'll find a stall with their names on it, a pile of gadgets and gears, a tool box, and diagrams. The parts and the diagrams look almost alien-esque, unlike anything they've probably ever seen before, and there's also an additional note from Zee.
So…here's the thing…we had to take this apart because it got corrupted, but we actually kind of needed it! Haha, who knew? I'm not really a technical kind of guy but I know some of you are. Think you could figure it out?
PS. Be prepared.
With that very ambiguous forewarning, the party will be left with to their own devices to figure out how to manufacture whatever the hell this thing is. They will have to work as a team, as they will soon come to find they are building one large machine with two separate wings on it! Similar to this with several moving internal parts and two extendable hatches on the side. The team will start to learn how to read the blueprints and they will be able to keep any of the extra parts for themselves.
Upon further examination, they will come to find that this looks very much like a mailbox. One of the wings on the side is labeled in a soft glowing green and the other is a red. There's a large door on the front that functions much like the current mailbox by Wiffle-Waffle.
…but is that it? The party may be confused since they built the machine and now it's just sort of sitting there looking pretty.
As they start to discuss what to do, however, they will soon hear the machine sputtering to life, gear clicking rapidly, extensions folding out and suddenly reaching behind them. While they can't visibly see the layer, they will notice that the machine's "arms" puncture through some kind of forcefield as it disappears into thin air. As the extension returns to the layer they're on, they will find themselves being pelted with all sorts of fruit, breads, jewelry and more. The things you would find at a Farmer's Market, of course.
As the machine continues to fight them, they will have to stop it from reaching between layers and disturbing everything on the other side (and they will hear the screaming and chaos from NPCs as they see a mechanical arm materialize and disappear repeated.
This machine can be beat via force or magic, as they will soon find a large, looming creature seeping out of the cogs and materializing as a thick, oily substance. The creature is flammable! But it can be stopped via freeze spells, containment, or splitting it apart so it cannot reform.
Upon defeat, the creature will disappear and the machine will return to its once-again harmless form. A text will appear not long after.
That went better than expected. I'll send a biohazard team and someone from tech out there once you clear the area. Thanks.
The quest will be considered "complete" when they depart and finish the boss battle and rebuilding the machine, including any damages it might take in the fight.
While there are no documents or anything, this group will be able to learn about some of the old technology Retrospec has worked with, decipher some of their blueprints, and see how the layers impact people on either side. It's also clear that the machine they've built is an old mailbox, meant to deliver items between layers.
Successful questing will mean bonus points for all party members (TBD at the time the quest ends) and ICly they will receive a small token like a gift card or such from Zee because he’s working on a budget here. Overall, this also immensely helps break down the layer surrounding Viea Village and will help the city at large with its efforts to break the layer and bring the NPCs back onto the normal layer.
Please let me know if this requires more information, and please confirm this is an acceptable quest for you! ICly this shouldn't take more than a day depending how quickly the party can figure out how to move and fight, but you are free to backtag as much as needed. Thank you!
